The Eligibility Criterion to Seek Admission in Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical engineering or AME is looked upon as one of the most preferred career choices that youth of this generation are interested in. Though the aviation sector is highly challenging but it cannot be denied that it possess vast scopes for development in future.

Aerospace or aeronautical engineering is hitched to the development of new technologies in the arena of space exploration, aviation industry and defence systems. Looking into details, it can be said that Aeronautical engineering involves a comprehensive array of some aspects like designing, development and construction, testing as well as maintenance of military and commercial aircrafts along with various types of satellites, missiles and spacecrafts.

In short, it can be said that aerospace engineering is a perfect combination of skilfully designing and constructing various high end technologies. It is looked upon as a reliable career choice for candidates who have interest in aerodynamics.

Eligibility criteria for admission to Aeronautical Engineering

The eligibility criteria for Aeronautical Engineering admission are discussed as follow:

  • The candidate needs to hail from the science background in his/her +2 level. The subjects taken in concern are Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and the minimum marks to be obtained is 60% and above.
  • If you possess this qualification, you can easily apply for any of the colleges offering course in aeronautical engineering but for admission to NITs and IITs, it is a must to qualify Joint Entrance Examination which is held once in a year between the months of April and May.
  • While there are some other institutions also which rely upon your JEE score for admission to aeronautical engineering, some also require the prospective applicants to qualify their entrance exam. There are also some other state and national level exams that offer admission to AME.

The duration for B.E. and B.Tech course is about 4 years whereas for the dual degree the time span is 5 years. Other degree and courses equivalent to the B.Tech program are also carried out by the Aeronautical Society of India.

This is classified into two halves:

  • Part A consists of ten papers in total and a student with science background (along with PCM as the core subjects) in +2 level with 50% marks is eligible for taking this examination.
  • Part B consists of three specialist streams and only those who manage to clear part A are eligible for taking this examination. Also a candidate from any other engineering branch can appear for part B directly. However they need to qualify the subject named as “Principles of Flight” from Part A.

Marks allotted to every subject are 100 while the pass marks is 50 in each. This examination is organized twice in a year i.e. in June & December respectively at various centres. Candidates who successfully manage to clear the test enjoy the designation as the Associate Member of the Aeronautical Society of India. This is equivalent to the B.Tech in Aeronautical Engineering. To pursue a post-graduation degree in this field, candidates need to take the GATE examination.

Consequently, many AME Training Institute in India are eagerly waiting to train the students and make them eligible for maintaining the aircraft. The job is of immense responsibility, which tends the institutes to look for trainees who will be able to perform properly and make the country as well as the institutes proud. So, if you are passionate about planes, then you should definitely give a thought to visiting this kind of institutes.

Little light on the subject

Being an AME means having the license to examine and adjudge any aircraft to be airworthy. Before any aircraft prepares to fly, it needs to be checked thoroughly to assure the safety of the passengers and also the crew members. In order to understand and point out the fault, the license holder needs to have appropriate knowledge of the vehicle, its parts, and their workings. This is where training institutes play their role effectively as they help the novices to become an expert by teaching them.

Things to consider while choosing AME Institute

The concerned AME Training institute in India should have the approval of the Director General of Civil Aviation. It should be very particular about the infrastructure that they provide to their students. Here are some more things to look for.
