How to get Admission for Aeronautical Engineering? A quick guide


Aeronautical Engineering is the study about aircraft design and maintenance. It involves practical knowledge about various parts of flight, testing and design. Engineers who work as Aeronautical Engineers should have a licence for it. It is a four-year engineering degree in which students have to attain knowledge about advanced technology used in flights. 


Jobs in Aeronautical engineering are available with several defence organisations, government research centres, aircraft manufacturing organisations and NASA. Only few colleges allow admission to Aeronautical Engineering, and that also to selected candidates who possess an eye for detail and skilled at problem- solving. Mathematical accuracy, Computer skills, communication skill and design skills are also important to join this engineering stream.



Admission for Aeronautical Engineering

If you want to pursue Aeronautical Engineering you should apply for JEE Mains exam. Some colleges in India conduct their own exam but most of them take students from JEE Results. As this course is not available to all colleges, you must qualify JEE Main and sit for JEE Advanced. According to JEE Advance score, you can make your choice of course. JEE Exam is available in both online and offline mode and it is conducted by CBSE every year. The JEE Mains exam is conducted on every first Sunday of April and qualified students give JEE Advance on first Sunday of June. 

Eligibility

Aeronautical Engineering Admission is given if the candidates fulfil certain eligibility criterion:
  • Candidates who have passed class 12th or equivalent with PCM or PCB
  • A candidate is only eligible for JEE Advanced if he or she has qualified JEE Mains and has secured 75% aggregate marks in Class 12.
  • For reserved categories such as SC or ST, relaxation of 5% is given 
  • Candidate age should be between 17 years to 25 Years, for reserved categories age can be up to 30 years.
  • Syllabus for JEE Mains and Advanced exam is asked from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and Biology taught in Class 11 and 12th
  • Those who want to pursue MTech in Aeronautical Engineering one should have completed BE or b tech in any branch of engineering
  • Aeronautical Engineering admission is provided at both undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Documents Required
  • Candidates must submit their date of birth certificate or Matric certificate at the time of admission.
  • Marksheet of 10+2 should be submitted at the time of admission
  • Migration Certificate, Medical certificate, ID proof, Character certificate and various other certificates would be required at the time of admission
  • Passport size photographs would be required
  • Generally, these certificates are required by all the institutions during admission.

  • After getting Admission for Aeronautical Engineering, jobs are available in aircraft units.
  • Defence Ministry and Indian Space Research Organisations are two major employers for Aeronautical Engineers.
  • Organisations such as Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd., Defence Research and Development Laboratories, National Aeronautical Lab, 
  • Aeronautical Development Establishment, Civil Aviation Department, etc. also offer employment opportunities to Aeronautical Engineers. 
Salary Package

The average package for Aeronautical Engineers ranges from 3 lakhs to 15 lakhs per annum. The salary also depends upon academic excellence and practical skill of the individual. Gross salary for freshers in this field is between Rs 40000 - 1.25 lakh per month. The hike in salary depends upon the organisation you are working, current position and performance. The hike is good in the private sector as compared to the government sector.
